Inoffensive content

This test checks a website for material which may be inappropriate for certain audiences. This does not just include pornography, but other topics too like drugs and violence.

Why do we test for this?

This test is designed to alert you if your content isn't appropriate for your intended audience. It alerts you to any adult content on the site which may accidentally offend your visitors or trigger filtering systems. Filtering systems are designed to protect vulnerable groups when browsing the internet. They are commonly used by parents, schools and large organisations.

How do we test for this?

We push the pages of the site being tested through a third party filtering system. This third party system is used worldwide every day by schools and large organisations. We have the system set to its harshest level. If the system detects less than 10 inappropriate phrases, we will highlight these to you so that you can take appropriate action. If there are more than 10, we will hide them to protect visitors to Nibbler, but chances are if the site has content this strong you will already be aware.

We also use the outcome of the inappropriate content test to stop adult sites from appearing in our top sites list. Reports with a low score in this test will also not show a screenshot.

What can I do about it?

Chances are that if you run a website with strong content, like an adult dating website, then you will be aware that the content might not be suitable for a general audience. If this is the case, then you should probably ignore the output of this test as your website is suitable for its intended audience, even though it has the potential to offend.

Those who should take action should be those who run a website or blog which is intended for a general audience. You may like to take action to ensure your site is appropriate. Providing that Nibbler found less than 10 inappropriate phrases, it will show you them so you may take action to remove them.
