Social Media

This test judges how social media savvy a site is.

Why do we test for this?

Social media is becoming increasingly important on the web. We look at how well you use social media as a measure of popularity and the effectiveness of your sites online marketing.

How do we test for this?

We look at the volume of Tweets, Delicious bookmarks and Diggs that your website has recieved. The more Tweets, bookmarks and Diggs, the higher you score. If there is a sufficient number of tweets relating to your site, we also analyse them to see if people are talking positively or negatively about your site. This is useful information is known as sentiment analysys, but we don't use it to calculate the score.

What can I do about it?

If you don't already have a Twitter account, consider getting one. Each time you update your site, Tweet about it. If your updates and content are interesting, people will pick up on it and retweet. This is a very quick way to get links to your site and increase visitor numbers. If your website is article oriented (e.g. blog, news) , you could also add social media buttons to your page to make it easier for people to Tweet, Digg or bookmark your content.
